We had started out on this mission of information on marketing website with lots of optimism. And we have also ended it in the same manner.

Today's marketing website Article
Viral Marketing: 25 ideas for the Financially Challenged

There has been a lot of articles written about Viral
Marketing, but I just had to offer my 3 cents (that's
all I can afford) on this subject. For those of you who
aren't yet familiar with the term, Viral Marketing is
the technique of enticing others to promote your
business by distributing something of value with your
message attached. Rather than get theoretical or
editorialize you to death, I'll just list a few ideas
to get your business and web site out there in the
public eye. There are many more and if you can find
something original you are always better off.

1. Distributing your own Free Software
2. Writing and Offering Free eBooks
3. Signing visitors up for Free email accounts via a
site like .
4. Creating up an Award Site.
5. Creating a Top 100 Site.
6. Creating a Recommend-It Site.
7. Offering access to content from your site, while
customizing it to fit each user.
8. Offer Free E-Cards.
9. Writing articles for reprint in newsletters and on
web sites.
10. Set up a discussion board and open it for other to
use for their web sites.
11. Offering Free Graphics, Banners or Web Site
Templates.
12. Free Consulting Services.
13. Free Domain Name Estimating.
14. Free Web Site Reviews.
15. Setting Up A Search Engine Site.
16. Free Banner Rotation or Link Exchange Site.
17. Specialized Databases or Directories.
18. Of course you must have a Free Newsletter.
19. Free Page Redirect Service.
20. Free Screensavers.
21. Free Autoresponder Service.
22. Free Web Space.
23. Use The "Pass This On" technique. Where you create
something like a humorous picture attach your web site
url and encourage others to pass it on.
24. Free Document Templates.
25. Offer Free Email Courses or Workshops.

I myself have written a few widget programs like Free
Meta Tags, Free Image Rollover Scripts and Free Doorway
Pages. Now, you're thinking, everyone and their brother
have these things. Well, what I did to promote this
uphill battle was to set them up so that you could not
only get them from my site, but you can also offer them
from your site as well, by using a few lines of script.
Why would you want to do this? In the script, you can
also add your own advertising message that gets sent
out to your visitors using the service, which by the
way I host completely at my site. This makes an easy
marketing add-on for newbie sites who want to offer
free content. We also sell these little programs to
others who want to offer the same Viral Marketing
Freebie to their visitors. If you would like to see
what I mean, stop by and visit us at

Good luck to you in your Marketing Ad-ventures

HOW TO CREATE A VIRAL MARKETING MACHINE FOR ANY AFFILIATEDavid Seitz

Wow, that's a powerful title! Don't let the headline fool you though, this could be the most important article you ever read. If done correctly this is one the easiest ways to create a permanent revenue stream with ANY affiliate program you are promoting.

Have you taken notice that some of the most popular types of web sites on the internet are portal (or vortal) web sites? These portals, or should we say web site vortals (vertical portals) are really nothing more than an organized collection of links to other web sites.

Why are they so popular, and more importantly why are they so successful?

One of the biggest reasons they are popular is because they save visitors time. We all know time is very easy to waste on the internet. A visitor to a vortal does not have to go through tedious search engine listings to find what they are looking for anymore, it's all right there sorted and stored for them at their favorite vortal web site.

Let me tell you a little story before we get deeper into this since it fits right in with this article. It's also a prime example of why these sites are so successful.

Last week I was searching for information on a motorcycle... specifically pricing info. I wanted to see what kind of price fluctuations there were from state to state. Well to make a long story short, while I was searching I wondered upon a few vortal sites geared to the motorcycle community. These sites actually had everything I was looking for and more... I even ended up buying from a couple of their resources and they both ended up in my bookmarks for future visits.

No fancy graphics, no amazing flash animations just good solid "targeted" content.

To follow along here are the two web sites I ended up spending some time at:

http://www.moto-directory.com/ http://www.motorcyclerow.com/

(Don't worry we are going to get to explaining how all of this is going to help you increase your internet revenue!)

Visit the first web site moto-directory.com and what do you see?

Let's put it all into perspective:

1. A large "searchable" categorized listing of motorcycle resources and vendors.
2. Advertisers with products and services geared to the motorcycle industry.
3. Affiliate bookstore geared to motorcycle users. 4. Affiliated classified ad system and auction. 5. Automated directory system.

Actually this vortal is owned and operated by motorcycleshopper.com so I am sure you can see the big picture here... they realize the community a vertical portal brings sells products and produces advertising revenue!

So, what do we have to work with here...

If you created and operated a vortal site what would you have to look forward to:

1. The searchable categorized listings make it as easy as possible for a visitor to find what they are looking for and almost guarantees your site gets bookmarked.

2. Once a vortal becomes popular advertisers flock to it because they know they will find "targeted" traffic. Not only can you produce a solid advertising revenue stream but you can also advertise your own affiliate programs especially if they are geared to the web sites category.

3. The fact that the system is totally automated is a big fat bonus! What if related web sites visited and build your directory for you, isn't that enough reason to stop what you are doing right now and start on the framework for your own vertical portal web site?

Vortals are geared to one subject and visitors love it!

All Content is geared to the vortals theme. All advertising is geared to the vortals content. All resources are related to the vortals content. All in all a vortal is a perfect targeted community

$$$$ Cha-Ching!

Ok we all see the big picture here but how do we put a vertical portal to work for an affiliate program?

Easy...

Create a portal on a topic related to the affiliate programs you are promoting and funnel the buyers in!

* FIRST YOU NEED A THEME & A DOMAIN NAME:

So let's find out what type of portal we can create.

Many of you may already know me as the Affiliate Marketing Director for Net Detective: http://www.jeanharris.com/associate/ Many affiliates have been following along with this article and creating some killer revenue machines. As an example of an affiliate front here are a few ideas for a front end portal for Net Detective:
(Remember,in this example the goal is to sell net detective so we need to find a theme and content geared to the product.)

1: A spy resources directory 2: An Investigation resource center 3: An adoption/genealogy resource center 4: A directory of location services 5: A search resource directory 6: Employee Investigation resource directory 7: Spy or investigation software resource center etc., etc....

As you can see this can easily turn into a really powerful marketing machine that will work for you 24 hours a day. You can build a vortal for any type of affiliate program you are promoting.

You will definitely need a new domain name for this project and here are four resources to help:

For 13.50 per year this is the lowest domain registration service I have seen http://www.000domains.com

If you need help coming up with a good domain name use these three resources to search for available names. 1. http://www.nameboy.com/ 2. http://whois.net
3. http://hammer.prohosting.com/~domains/cgi-bin/main.shtml

* SECOND, YOU NEED A SYSTEM:

Fortunately for us there are several ready made directory systems available on-line to help us quickly get our new vertical portal up and running.

Links Manager v2.0 - create your own directory or index like Yahoo, Snap or Dmoz. Includes sophisticated administrative tool and it's automated: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/links/index.htm

Index Finger Pro Edition - Produces a clean and professional directory using html pages. Unlimited categories and sub-categories, supports ad banners, search, site requests, mailing list, site rating, what's new and cool pages, plus more. http://www.indexfinger.com/

Web Index v1 - With WebIndex you can start a search engine that works very much like Yahoo or CGI-Resources. With the web-based admin area you can build up the directories, edit/remove directories, verify/edit/remove links and much more. Automatically updated What's New! page, advanced search and the best part is: the layout of the pages are totally customizable.
http://cgi-center.cx/scripts/webindex.html

You can find many more directory systems at Cgi-Resources Here is the direct link to the links indexing category: http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Link_Indexing_Scripts/

* THIRD, YOU WILL NEED A MARKETING PLAN:

Again we can help! We have a large amount of material to help you get your new portal in front of as many eyeballs as you can at a Helping Hands resource center.

The goal of your portal should be to provide a one stop resource for your selected category and focus on selling your product or promtoing your affiliate programs.

If you work your affiliate program banners, links, classifieds etc. into your sites framework you will be surprised at how successful your new venture could become. When you produce targeted traffic your sales will only rise. Just think, every single visitor to your new portal is a potential customer! Talk about targeting huh?

There is a ton of marketing material online for you to take advantage of in The Helping Hand newsletter and marketing center: http://www.helpinghand-newsletter.com

Marketing in a Recession

Marketing in a Recession
2002 Jeffrey Dobkin

Not everybody is in a recession.
Some firms are doing quite well, thank you. In this down economy selected entire industries are really flourishing: the mortgage industry for example, is booming, so is the security and protection industry; snack foods are up a few good points and the gift industry is particularly strong.

While people stay closer to home local shopping is doing well like housewares, and home items. Theres a big boom in stereo, and TVs; and local travel - especially places that are short drives - are up significantly. With the money people arent spending on flying they are buying more stuff, and spending money closer to home. And everybody appreciates the fact that gas prices are the lowest in years.

Dont wait
More discretionary money is available from people who arent traveling. That money is going to be spent somewhere.

Keep mailing
Youll have less competition.

Negotiate with your vendors
You cant squeeze blood out of a stone, but in this economy people are more likely to negotiate and barter terms, price, services and goods than when things are going well and everybody is getting list price. You never know until you ask - so ask.

Use Press Releases to supplement your ads
Double your exposure. The magazine publishers (and the magazine industry in general) are having tough times, too. Theyll appreciate your advertising support - and are most likely to show their appreciation with editorial support via your press release.

Limit Test Mailings
Stay with what works. Pare back on those wild ideas for tests youve had, and mail closer to home with tried and true markets youre pretty dern sure will pay off. Limit experimental tests to markets closer to those home-run markets youre mailing too, and keep mailing the ones that look most likely to pay off in the short run.

Test smaller quantities
You see a sign on a wall, Wet Paint. So, the first thing you do is you go over and touch it. Right? I thought so. Me too. Face it - testing is in your blood, youre a direct mailer at heart. You cant stop testing -- and I wouldnt want you to. Its a necessary part of direct marketing: you need to explore new market segments to grow.

So while you cant stop testing, you can test more precisely. And you can test smaller numbers. If youve been testing cells of 5,000 records, drop down to 4,000. So the statistical analysis of the mailing results wont be as absolute, so what? Youll save money. It may be a little more work, but guess what? Itll save you money. And it make take longer to get the exact results you need to predict a profitable rollout, but you guessed it: it will cost you less, youll save money.

By the way - if you run a small business; no, I mean a really small business, and mailings of 5,000 are a lot for you - as they are for many of my small business clients and friends, feel free to mail even smaller quantities. Face it, owners of SOHOs and VSBs (very small businesses) dont have $2,500 to test a 5,000 name list. So heck, dont let that stop you: mail just a thousand pieces. Youll be able to tell if you are getting any sales - or any calls at all from the list. Youll know if this mailing paid for itself, and youll know it fairly quickly. So what if its not statistically sound - youll learn enough to mail more or not mail more to that list. And isnt that what testing is all about?

Sell more subtly
Send a survey. Feel people out - see what they want, then offer them that. Surveys are usually welcome, and can yield quite surprising information when designed correctly.

Save on printing and literature costs
I almost always recommend throwing a loose qualifying net: designing ads and mailers to make everyone call, then later-on, sorting out the callers into an A, B, and C prospect list. In these tough times consider sending a smaller interim package of material to first level respondents instead of your $8 wonder-pack mailer, and save on those literature costs. Dont worry - if theyre interested - theyll call for more information.

As a bonus, your interim literature doesnt have to sell the product as hard. And believe me in good times and bad, yikes its tough - from just a few sheets of paper - to make a person put a check in an envelope and wave to it, or drive someone to pick up the phone specifically to place an order.

With an interim mailer, you can just sell the phone call, which is much easier: Just pick up the phone and call us toll FREE -- Well send you our four-color glossy brochure, and well include our full instructional manual along with it, so you can see exactly how easy it is to Then put a special phone number on it, and when this phone rings, forward it to Ivan Perry - your top superstar salesman who closes 90% of his customers on the first phone call.

Mail to your own top 100
Its the first mailing I recommend to any of my new clients. Even if its just a Thank you for your business! post card, mail something to your own list of your top 100 clients. You can never do too much for them. You know what other businesses call those folks, dont you? They call them prospects.

Mail to your other top 100
Mail to your top 100 prospects. You do have a top 100 prospect list, dont you?

Stop trying so hard to get orders.
Nobody likes a pushy salesperson. How about not concentrating so hard on getting sales, but on getting and keeping - customers. Not every letter I create for clients is a sales letter. Some just say a warm thank you. Some just touch the heart and create loyalty, or strengthen the bond between clients and their customers. Like Hallmark, just more personal. You can do this, too, in your letters.

Use letters as vehicles of personal communication
A well written and well designed letter is always welcomed by the recipient. You can reach the president of the MGM Grand Hotel, a State Representative, or a top executive of most any firm with just a plain old letter - what a great tool to accomplish almost any task. Dont forget to write the objective of your letter first, then draft the letter to your written stated objective.

Customer Review: D-Link DCM-202 DOCSIS2.0 USB/Ethernet Cable Modem

I purchased this modem new and installed it by following the instructions on the quick setup card. I contacted my cable internet provider (Comcast) with the MAC address and after they did their thing it has been up and running. I am also using a D-link wireless router and a Motorola Vonage device for phone service via Vonage. Everything has been working perfectly since day 1. D-Link DCM-202 DOCSIS 2.0 USB/Ethernet Cable Modem

Customer Review: D-link DCM202 modem Is the ultimate

I bought the D-link DMC202 about two weeks ago to replace a motorola Surfboard SB5120 It has been working great.

ats on the D-link DCM202 compared to the Motorola Surfboard sb5120.

I am using optimum online the basic broadband service in NY no boost.

average speed after 11 pm usually around 13.2 Mbps

average speed after 8 am usually is around 9.8 Mbps

Now let' s go to D-link DCM202 Stats

average speed after 11 pm usually around 15.2 Mbps average speed after 8 am usually is around 11.839 Mbps

D-link modem t works faster than the Motorola Surfboard SB5120.

I did not even call Optimum Online to set up the modem.

I just connect the modem directly to the line and then I click on the web browser and the instruction popped up and ask me for my account number. I put the account number and then follow the ISP provider Instruction.

I was very connected to the net.

Customer Review: If you LOVE the METS...BUY THIS

I plan on showing my future children this six disc DVD and not telling them anything, except it is worth the ride. The 16-inning NLCS game is unreal...even knowing what happens did not ruin the drama. Game 6 of the world series is also worth it...I rewound the Buckner error a million times. Dwight Gooden's worthlessness; oil can Boyd's meltdown; Carter, Backman, and Dykstra all in rarified form. Almost made this last season palatable.

Customer Review: It's "Bugged"

This is a good set except for one thing - the MLB logo "bug" in the center-right of the screen. Anyone who can remember when TV didn't have these (meaning you can remember 1986) will be extremely distracted by this. If you think you can put up with it, get the set. I thought this set would mean I could retire my old videotapes, but I guess not. I'd rather watch those than have a big chunk of the screen be obscured.

Can you imagine how much fucking fun Steve Ballmer is having every time he looks at Yahoo!'s decimated share price? He's always been a prize, take no prisoners fucktard, and right now he's inflicting so much pain on Jerry's crumbling empire and obviously loving every fucking minute. All he has to do is open his pie hole to express disinterest in buying the beat to shit company and Yahoo! gets pounded like a rusty nail. At Microsoft's annual meeting Wednesday, Balmer told shareholders he no long

You have to love bnet's Jim Edward's supposition that the primary reason BBDO lost Pepsi was 'cos the client finally got pissed off with being ripped off. Jim spells out how as sales of Pepsi went up, profits went down. Probably 'cos BBDO's bills increased by half a fucking billion dollars in the same time period profits were dropping. Typical BDA greed. Don't these guys ever learn. As the account is going to another Omnicom shop, Jim has these words of advice to TBWA/C/D... Make sure you bill

Internet Marketing Tools - FTP Basics

File Transfer Protocol, better known as FTP, is a procedure used to upload and download files to and from your web server.

In order to use FTP, you'll need to download and install a software program on your computer. The most widely used FTP program is WS FTP Pro. You can find it here: http://www.wsftp.com

When you first launch the FTP program, a startup screen will appear. This screen will enable you to add your website information and allow the program to connect with your server. You simply fill in the information where indicated with the following information:

Profile Name - This name will be added to the selection list of profile names. Select your profile name according to your domain. For example, if your domain name were smiths.com, your profile name might be Smiths.

Host Name/Address - Your domain name address. Example - www.smiths.com

Host Type - The type of server in which your website is hosted. The standard is Unix.

User ID - Your hosting User ID. Example - smiths.

Password - Your hosting password.

Depending on which FTP client you use, the names may be slightly different.

Once the FTP program has connected with your server, you will see the files on your computer in the left window and the files on your server will be displayed in the right window.

Transferring Files

To maneuver through your folders, simply double click on them. To transfer your files, either double click on the file or highlight it and then click on the transfer files arrow.

To select more than one file at a time, click on each file you'd like to transfer while holding down the Ctrl key on your keyboard. Keep in mind, all of the files you select must be uploaded in the same mode. In other words, you could upload all of your HTML files at the same time, or all of your images.

If all of the files you'd like to upload are all together, you can click on the first file while holding down your Shift key and use the down arrow on your keyboard to highlight all of your files.

Files such as text, HTML, and most scripts should be uploaded to your server in ASCII mode. Any file that isn't ASCII text, such as programs (EXE, ZIP), graphics, ebooks, sounds (WAV, MID) and movies should be uploaded to your server in Binary mode.

File Permissions

When using scripts on your website, you will be required to set file permissions in order for your scripts to run properly on a Unix server. The most common setting for CGI/Perl scripts is 755. When working with scripts, you may receive an Internal Server Error when you try to run it. Many times, this error is caused by improperly set file permissions.

Permissions:

Read - 4 - r
Write - 2 - w
Execute - 1 - x
None - 0 - -

- Read permissions are enabled with the number 4 or the letter r.

- Write permissions are enabled with the number 2 or the letter w.

- Execute permissions are enabled with the number 1 or the letter x.

- No permissions are enabled with the number 0 or a dash.

Each of these permissions will be set for each of the following:

Owner
Group
Other

To give you a better idea of how permissions are set, below is an example of a script that requires the permissions to be set to 755 -- it breaks down like this:

7 - Represents the permissions for the Owner (you). The owner has been given Read, Write and Execute permissions. 4+2+1=7. This can also be written like this: rwx

5 - Represents the permissions for the Group (individuals with access to your server). The Group has been given Read and Execute permissions. 4+1=5. This can also be written like this: rx

5 - Represents the permissions for the Others (website visitors). The Others have been given Read and Execute permissions. 4+1=5. This can also be written like this: rx

755 is equal to rwxrxrx

Changing File Permissions with Your FTP program:

If you would like to set your file permissions through your FTP program, you can do so like this:

1. Log into your server and locate the directory that contains your file.
2. Highlight the file that you would like to change permissions.
3. Place your mouse pointer over the file and right click to launch a menu.
4. Click on "chmod (UNIX) to launch the "permissions" window.
5. Set your permissions and click on OK.

In addition to setting permissions with your FTP program, most web hosts will enable you to set permissions through your web page management system.

If you're managing your own website, having a good FTP program is an absolute must. Not only will it provide you with some independence, but it will also enable you to have complete control over your files.

50 Years of Rock & Roll

50 Years of Rock & Roll
Customer Review: 50 years of Rock and Roll, on cd

Last year was the 50 anniveristy of Rock and Roll, and the town of Memphis, someone from there, brought this cd out, with 21 tracks, inclduing 2 songs fom Elvis Presley, who lived in Memphis, along with some other places during his carrer, but he lived there for a long time. The cd also has songs from Roy Orbison & the Teen Kings, Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Two, Aretha Franklin, and Jerry Lee Lewis. The first songs were recored at Sam Philips's Sun Studios, but around track #10 or so, check the booklet that comes with, are songs that are from another recording studio. The cd has songs from the 50's, 60's and early 70's, and nothing too recent. So if you are a fan of these singers, maybe not all, this is denifly something you want to give a listen to. From songs like That's All Right, Ooby Dooby, Son Of A Preacher Man, and I'll Take You there. THe whole song list, and singers are

1. Rocket 88 - Jackie Brenston & His Delta Cats

2. That's All Right - Elvis Presley with Scotty and Bill

3. Blue Suede Shoes - Carl Perkins

4. I Walk The Line - Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Two

5. Ooby Dooby - Roy Orbison and Teen Kings

6. Great Balls Of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis

7. Last Night - The Mar-Keys

8. Green Onions - Booker T & The MG's

9. Rock Me Baby - B.B. King

10. Wooly Bully - Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs

11. The Dark End Of the Street - James Carr

12. Respect - Aretha Franklin

13. The Letter - The Box Tops

14. Soul Man - Sam And Dave

15. (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay - Otis Redding

16. Memphis Train - Rufus Thomas

17. Son Of A Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield

18. Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley

19. Theme From Shaft - Isaac Hayes

20. Let's Stay Together - Al Green

I hope you enjoy this cd, and will always be in your cd collection, and play in your cd player if you ever want to celbrate yourself 50 years of Rock and Rock.

Customer Review: All Good; Gimme More

Starting with "Rocket 88" with Ike Turner playing with his busted amp before R & B (OR rock and roll) were mainstream and ending up far down the line, this is all good stuff. I highly recommend it, and yes, there IS a lot of Memphis stuff here. I considered only 4 stars because how can you cover 50 years in 21 songs? They owe me but I'll gladly pay more for another 21 from the same time frame--if they're as good as these.

A forex market Artilce for Your Viewing
3 Powerful Concepts That Climb Marketing Mountains

You have probably heard many times how you should offer
fr.ee reports. Like many of us, the idea of putting in work
to give something away may have gone through you
transparent. (Right in your mind's ear and out the other :>)

So, if you passed over this idea before, you are not alone.
However, I am here to tell you to reconsider it and for
good reason. Why? Because this is one idea that is doable
from any level. And, it still works and always will.

It can get your marketing off the ground without much if
any costs. It can literally be your marketing vehicle to
gain exposure, build a email list and even crank in
affiliate commissions along the way.

This is not just another gorilla marketing tactic for folks
who can't afford to advertise. Not at all. It's way more
than that. Top marketers still use fr.ee reports as a
legitimate marketing tool.

Why? Because they can penetrate a valuable message
almost instantly with the least amount of marketing friction.

In this article you will discover why Fr.ee, Branding and
Viral are 3 powerful concepts that hold a strong place in
online marketing. You can get in on it now and climb some
marketing mountains - here's how.

"Fr.ee" speaks for itself. It can cheapify or gratify
depending on how you present it. There are many ways to add
value to make people want what you will give them. Offer
useful information to a targeted group and they'll eat it
out of your hands.

"Viral Marketing" is a coined term in Internet marketing
which indicates a passing from one to another - like a
virus.

"Branding" is the key to viral marketing. This is a form of
personalization that can be passed along from marketer to
recipient. Then the recipient can also pass it along as a
marketer to his recipients, and so on.

This forms an ongoing cycle that carries with it an
incentive to keep the distribution in motion. Your
personalization can travel along by literally hundreds,
even thousands carrying links leading back to
you and the products you represent.

Sound complicated? - It's not!

So, how does this viral marketing information get into so
many hands? Again, it's the incentive that everyone
involved can achieve something. This propels the
viral distribution. And it's all possible because of
branding!

Hot Tip: Think of it this way.

How many thousands of people do you think are interested in
buying a popular ebook or piece of software that you
already own?

What you should do then is create a fr.ee special report
teaching something useful about the product. Show them a few
of it's many benefits before they buy it and they may just
decide to buy it through your affiliate link.

That's the power of the 3 concepts and it works like a charm
everyday on the Internet. Please don't over look this very
important point.

So, what's in branding reports for you?

Great question - let's go over it.

For example:

* In return for joining your email list, you can use fr.ee
branded reports offering them to your signups.

* You can let others a give them away adding useful
content to their websites or even as an added bonus with
products that you sell.

* You make affiliate commissions when someone buys from
your branded links inside the report(s).

And, even if you are branding someone else's report,
there's about zero work involved and you can still benefit
as if it's your own.

By giving away fr.ee reports, you can dramatically build
your email list and boost affiliate commissions. The more
viral reports you use in your marketing, the more it
will increase your opportunities.

So, remember to offer several Fr.ee Branded Viral Reports
and let the multiplicity of the Internet work for y
